Based on the community needs assessment survey responses, the Oberlin community brought up a need to focus on providing more access to mental health care, dental care, and addiction support. This study also illuminated that the Decatur area has a high population of uninsured or underinsured individuals and households. Survey results denoted that utilization of the Decatur Health Emergency Room by local residents is excellent, but patient time spent in the ER has been elongated secondary to difficulties with ground and air transport. One purposed solution to reduce times for flight transfers will be implemented in the next few months, as Decatur Health has signed a new contract to find quicker and more readily available life-saving flights and transport. Another response of high volume was noting the need for more Primary and Specialty doctors. Decatur Health is also researching the addition of more prenatal care for mothers in the service area. This will take coordination with area hospitals that currently provide delivery services. Decatur Health would like to thank all participants for their input, and we look forward to more community collaboration at the next meeting which will be announced in the coming weeks.
